How do we know that the food we are buying with the organic label on it really is organic? Or, even, what organic really means? Who determines what foods can have the USDA Organic label on them? Journalist Peter Laufer had similar questions when he visited his local market. And, he decided to investigate these questions. After a year of research the result is an outstanding book “Organic: A Journalist’s Quest to Discover the Truth Behind Food Labeling“. Peter is also the James Wallace Chair of Journalism at the University of Oregon. I have known his work for many years (30 in fact) and admire him. I had a chance to talk with him about his book and I know you will enjoy this EarthNews Journal report.
