The Incidental Steward: Reflections on Citizen Science

The Incidental Steward

I believe in the role and importance of basic research in our daily lives and, certainly, in our collective futures. That said, we have a dilemma. Given the economic landscape, funding for long-term basic research is costly and can’t be done without the help of people like you and I. Akiko Busch beautifully describes this reality in her new book — The Incidental Steward (Yale University Press) — and the impact and opportunity the work of citizen scientists offers. Her beautifully crafted stories and inspiring view of the world makes Akiko someone I hope to connect with often in the future.
